Lyons Hose Co. No.1 was formed in 1893 serving the Town of Lyons with a hose cart and nozzle. In 1930 a Chevrolet pickup was donated by a Lyons resident to carry hose. The hose cart was stored, and later lost in a fire. In 1953 the Town of Lyons purchased a new Ford front mount pumper. This truck is still owned by the district. The department was funded by donations, and $1,500 a year from the town. Lyons Fire Protection District was formed in 1976, a new building, and two new pumpers were added. In 1988 an election was held to include a 25 square mile area north west of town where station 2 was built in 1990. In the end of 2002 and beginning in 2003, the department improved its capabilities by adding large diameter hose, a second tender, and a new brush truck.
